F-1 Spurs Sao Paulo Residents to Rent Homes

Sao Paulo residents want their piece of the $110 million the city estimates Formula One fans will spend this weekend.
The Brazilian Grand Prix, to be held in two days at the Autodromo Jose
Carlos Pace in the Interlagos suburb, is the last race of the year and
will decide the season championship between Lewis Hamilton, Fernando
Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen.
All of the 120,000 racetrack tickets sold at prices as high as 1,865
reais ($1,044), according to the race's Web site. Gilmar Santana is one
of the people who lives nearby charging admission to his home to watch
the race from his terrace.
``The extra money always helps,'' said Santana, 34, an unemployed building superintendent.
He said he will cram 70 racing fans into the..........

Lewis Hamilton in Tiger country now
↑ Click on this link to see the full article!!!
A Reuters story at www.reuters.com
Indianapolis, Indiana - Lewis Hamilton
enters Tiger territory this week and whether Formula 1's new hero likes
it or not comparisons will abound ahead of Sunday's US Grand Prix.
Hamilton, who won his first Grand Prix on June 10 at Montreal, has
tried to distance himself from the inevitable comparison with Tiger
Woods, saying their situations have little in common.
There are undeniable links for American sports fans, however, and with
the world's top golfer teeing up at the US Open only a few hundred
kilometres east the pair will be under scrutiny this weekend.
But Hamilton said after his Canadian GP win: "I'm not Tiger; I have to
prove myself before people can make those types of comparisons."
The US Open is guaranteed huge television ratings in America with Woods
in the field but whether Hamilton can bring the same buzz and audience
to the US Grand Prix is far from certain.
Hamilton was the main attraction in Montreal, filling the marketing
void left by the departure of local hero Jacques Villeneuve from F1.
Motor racing fans filled the stands at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve
despite the absence of the Canadian driver, many eager to get a first
glimpse of the Briton who has............

2006 F1 season race-by-race guide
↑ Click on this link to see the full article!!!
An article from http://f1.racing-live.com
The 2006 Championship seemed to be but
over mid-season, but it was a season where the two title protagonists
were tied on points with two races to go.
Here's how the drama of the season unfolded, race by race:
Bahrain, March 12
1. Fernando Alonso (Renault), 2. Michael Schumacher (Ferrari), 3. Kimi Raikkonen (McLaren)
Alonso began his title defence in winning style but was pushed all the
way by a rejuvenated Ferrari with Schumacher determined to bury the
misery of 2005. The Spaniard was only certain of victory when he
emerged ahead of the German from the final round of pit stops.
Raikkonen charged from the back of the grid to claim the final podium
spot.
Malaysia, March 19
1. Giancarlo Fisichella (Renault), 2. Fernando Alonso (Renault), 3. Jenson Button (Honda)
Fisichella clinched his third career win leading from pole position and
thwarting challenges from Button and Alonso. The world champion passed
Button to seal Renault's first 1-2 as a constructor since the 1982
French Grand Prix. Schumacher was sixth, a credible performance after
he and team mate Felipe Massa started from the back of the grid after
engine failures on their Ferraris.
Australia, April 2
1. Fernando Alonso (Renault), 2. Kimi Raikkonen (McLaren), 3.
Ralf Schumacher (Toyota)
A bizarre afternoon in Melbourne saw Alonso take victory while
Raikkonen's McLaren, with a damaged nosecone, took second spot. Pole
sitter Jenson Button lost the lead early on and then retired with an
engine fire in his Honda. The safety car was required four times while
Michael Schumacher failed to.........

The best and the worst of Michael Schumacher
↑ Click on this link to see the full article!!!
A Reuters story at http://sport.guardian.co.uk
MONZA, Italy, Sept 10 - Ferrari's
seven-times world champion Michael Schumacher announced at the Italian
Grand Prix on Sunday that he will retire from Formula One at the end of
the season.
The following looks at some of the best and the worst of the 37-year-old German's 246 races since his debut in 1991.
SIX OF THE BEST
BELGIUM 1992
Schumacher's first race win, in the wet, and one in which he showed all
his tactical brilliance. Overtaken by Benetton team mate Martin Brundle
after sliding off, Schumacher noticed that the Briton's tyres were worn
out. Reckoning that his must be as well, he pitted immediately for rain
tyres. It was a masterstroke of timing that won him the race.
BELGIUM 1995
A victory from 16th place on the starting grid in changing conditions
and with the German staying out on slick tyres in the wet. The outcome
was also tainted by controversy, with the German receiving a...........

Hamilton hungry to fulfil his destiny by joining F1 Team, McLaren
↑ Click on this link to see the full article!!!
A Times Online story by Kevin
Eason http://www.timesonline.co.uk
 |
| Hamilton set to make his F1 debut next year |
HE HAS already been dubbed the Tiger
Woods of motor racing and Lewis Hamilton could soon be catapulted into
Formula One to become its most prized young star.
If Jenson Button warranted a flood of publicity when he lined up on the
grid, Hamilton will provoke a tidal wave as the first Afro-Caribbean to
join what has been an all-white sport up until now.
From the small village of Tewin, in Hertfordshire, Hamilton, like
Woods, is a dream ticket for sponsors: young, gifted, handsome — and
black. And soon to be in Formula One after a spectacular victory in the
biggest showcase in motor racing — the prestigious Monaco round of the
GP2 series that feeds Formula One.
His
emphatic victory, which gave him a ten-point lead in the championship,
was another important sign that this is a youngster ready to step up to
the big time.
Teams are queuing up to negotiate with the 21-year-old
but the final call on his future will be made by Ron Dennis, the team
principal at McLaren Mercedes, who has supported Hamilton’s career
since he.......

Schumacher’s new $86.6m contract
↑ Click on this link to see the full article!!!
Michael Schumacher now has in his possession a contract to extend his Formula One career for Ferrari by two more years.
That
is the information of Germany's biggest newspaper, Bild, which wrote on
Tuesday that the deal - yet to be signed by the Imola winner - is for a
monstrous $86.6 million.
Bild added that 37-year-old
Schumacher's new contract contains a 'World Champion clause', meaning
that he can quit at any time if he lifts an eighth title, including in
2006.
The newspaper suggested that a decision at....

Schumacher repels Alonso attack at the San Marino Grand Prix
↑ Click on this link to see the full article!!!
A BBC Online sports story at http://news.bbc.co.uk
Michael Schumacher held off a
challenge from world champion Fernando Alonso to win the San Marino
Grand Prix and re-ignite his championship challenge.
The Ferrari driver led comfortably from the start but ran into tyre
problems after his first pit stop and had to fight hard to repel Alonso.
Renault failed to grab the lead with an early final stop and Schumacher managed to survive in front to the end.
McLaren's Juan Pablo Montoya was third, with Honda's Jenson Button seventh.
The Englishman was again unable to live up to his qualifying speed.
Button held on to his second-place grid position until he made his
first stop on lap 15, five laps before Schumacher and 10 before Alonso.
That put Button on a three-stop strategy compared to the two-stop
plan of his major rivals, and he was not a factor in the battle for the
lead thereafter.
His hopes were further hit at his second stop, when he pulled away from the pits with the fuel hose still attached to his car.
The nozzle tore away from the hose, forcing the Englishman to stop in
the........

Michael Schumacheri breaks Senna pole record
↑ Click on this link to see the full article!!!
A BBC Online story at http://news.bbc.co.uk
 |
| “With the car we had, getting a pole was sort of obvious” Michael Schumacher |
Michael Schumacher grabbed his 66th
career pole position at the San Marino Grand Prix at Imola to break the
late Ayrton Senna's all-time record.
The German's achievement came at the same track at which Senna had won
his final pole, a day before the Brazilian was killed at this event in
1994.
Schumacher's Ferrari set a lap of one minute 22.795 seconds to beat Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello of Honda.
Ferrari's Felipe Massa was fourth ahead of world champion Fernando Alonso.
Senna's pole mark had been the only F1 performance record not held by
Schumacher, who has now racked up more wins, championship titles, poles
and points than any other driver in history.
Only Italian Riccardo Patrese's achievement of competing in 256 Grands
Prix has so far escaped Schumacher, for whom this weekend marks his
233rd F1 race.
A delighted Schumacher said: "With the car we had, getting a pole was
sort of obvious, but it is always great to start from pole.
"Obviously it has a special meaning to me but right now there is so
much focus on what comes next that I don't pay too much attention to it.
"The record is less important for me - you look at records when you
finish racing. I think we can show our very strong race pace."
Englishman Button earned a spot on the front row for the third race in
succession but Honda team-mate Barrichello impressed more,........

Fernando Alonso defects to McLaren
↑ Click on this link to see the full article!!!
An ITV story by ITV-F1 commentator
and former McLaren driver Martin Brundle at http://www.itv.com
What
does Fernando Alonso's defection to McLaren mean for Formula 1? How
will it effect the driver market and what will it do the balance of
power? Well ITV-F1 commentator and former McLaren ace Martin Brundle
for one reckons that signing the world champion has firmly swung things
in Ron Dennis's favour.
Here Martin gives us his thoughts on F1's biggest story of the year.
This is a classic F1 "moment", it's one of those occasions that makes the sport so intriguing.
Signing Fernando Alonso is a very smart move by McLaren.
And the timing of the announcement is significant because it has been done so early.
I
know how (McLaren team owner) Ron Dennis likes to get things out early,
because it's good for the team's image, sponsorship packages and so on,
but this gives them the high-ground on so many levels.
It's a massive coup.
It's
also intriguing how McLaren has managed the internal politics. You now
have two drivers looking at one seat. Effectively the music has stopped
and there is one chair up for grabs. Unless one of them has already.....

Rosberg on same track as his father at Williams
↑ Click on this link to see the full article!!!
A Times Online story by Kevin Eason at http://www.timesonline.co.uk
SIR FRANK WILLIAMS will put Nico
Rosberg on the Formula One grid next season in the hope that some of
the success of the youngster’s father will rub off on his failing team.
Rosberg, at 20, will be the youngest driver in the sport but arrives in
Formula One with the support of Keke, his father, who won the 1982
world championship with the Williams team.
Williams is an unlikely candidate to take over from Bruce Forsyth, but
Formula One’s knight seems to have launched his own version of The
Generation Game by gambling on Rosberg to drive for him next year.
Williams seems to be specialising in father-son contributions to the
highest form of motor racing: Keke raced for him two decades ago and he
also hired Damon Hill, the only man to emulate his father, Graham, as
Formula One world champion. The young Rosberg is an unknown quantity,
in spite of outstanding performances in lower formulas and a heritage
that puts him in line to form a dynasty behind his father.
But Williams has an experienced eye for spotting young talent, such as
gambling on a 19-year-old Jenson Button, who has gone on to become one
of the sport’s highest-paid drivers. Williams has no doubts that
Rosberg is capable of following in his father’s tyre tracks.
“I am only one of many in Formula One who is genuinely excited about
the prospect of Nico Rosberg,” Williams said. “I am delighted he is
making a contribution to Formula One history and has signed with us for
next season. His natural talent in the cockpit is equally matched by
his intelligence out of it, demonstrated by his.......
