F-1 Spurs Sao Paulo Residents to Rent Homes
Click on this link to see the full article!!!

Sao Paulo residents want their piece of the $110 million the city estimates Formula One fans will spend this weekend.

The Brazilian Grand Prix, to be held in two days at the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace in the Interlagos suburb, is the last race of the year and will decide the season championship between Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen.

All of the 120,000 racetrack tickets sold at prices as high as 1,865 reais ($1,044), according to the race's Web site. Gilmar Santana is one of the people who lives nearby charging admission to his home to watch the race from his terrace.

``The extra money always helps,'' said Santana, 34, an unemployed building superintendent.

He said he will cram 70 racing fans into the..........

Lewis Hamilton in Tiger country now
Click on this link to see the full article!!!

A Reuters story at www.reuters.com

Indianapolis, Indiana - Lewis Hamilton enters Tiger territory this week and whether Formula 1's new hero likes it or not comparisons will abound ahead of Sunday's US Grand Prix.

Hamilton, who won his first Grand Prix on June 10 at Montreal, has tried to distance himself from the inevitable comparison with Tiger Woods, saying their situations have little in common.

There are undeniable links for American sports fans, however, and with the world's top golfer teeing up at the US Open only a few hundred kilometres east the pair will be under scrutiny this weekend.

But Hamilton said after his Canadian GP win: "I'm not Tiger; I have to prove myself before people can make those types of comparisons."

The US Open is guaranteed huge television ratings in America with Woods in the field but whether Hamilton can bring the same buzz and audience to the US Grand Prix is far from certain.

Hamilton was the main attraction in Montreal, filling the marketing void left by the departure of local hero Jacques Villeneuve from F1.

Motor racing fans filled the stands at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve despite the absence of the Canadian driver, many eager to get a first glimpse of the Briton who has............

Beckham's stay at Real marked by lots of hype but no trophies
Click on this link to see the full article!!!

A story from The Associated Press

MADRID, Spain: David Beckham's four-year stay at Real Madrid did the Spanish club's finances a lot of good. Too bad about the results on the field.

Beckham failed to win a single major trophy with Madrid as the storied club experienced its worst slump since the early 1950s.

The 31-year-old midfielder, who signed a five-year contract with the Los Angeles Galaxy on Thursday, will now get a chance to earn some honors in the United States — a move likely to suit the mega celebrity lifestyle of the player and his former Spice Girl wife.

Madrid, a nine-time European champion, went through major upheavals during Beckham's stay, with the former England captain playing under six different coaches and three club presidents.

In 2003, Florentino Perez made Beckham the centerpiece of his project to create the world's best and most marketable team. When Beckham indicated his desire to leave Manchester United, Perez moved swiftly.

Perez insisted that Beckham's signing was for soccer reasons — he described him as one of England's best ever players — but the fans thought otherwise.

They knew Perez couldn't miss out on the chance to sign a marketing colossus with a talent for self-promotion, a cultural icon who was popular with soccer fans and non-fans alike — men, women, children and different ethnic and racial groups.

Beckham, whose contract included a clause in which half of his image rights would go to Madrid, was everything the.........

A BBC story at http://news.bbc.co.uk

Regazzoni was one of F1's most popular drivers
Former Grand Prix driver Gianclaudio "Clay" Regazzoni has been killed in a road accident.

The Italian Ansa news agency said the 67-year-old Swiss, a former Ferrari driver, was killed in a collision with a lorry on a motorway near Parma.

Regazzoni won five of his 132 Grands Prix in an 11-year career, which ended when he was paralysed from the waist down in a crash at Long Beach in 1980.

Regazzoni spent five years at Ferrari and was second in the '74 championship.

Famous for his bushy moustache and relaxed personality, Regazzoni made his Formula One debut for the Italian team in the 1970 Dutch Grand Prix, in which he finished fourth, immediately establishing himself as...................

A Bloomberg story by James Cone at www.bloomberg.com

Phillips held off strong competition to claim the prestigious award
Zara Phillips, winner of the World Equestrian Games' three-day eventing title, was voted the British Broadcasting Corp.'s sports personality of the year, joining her mother, Princess Anne.

Phillips, 25, granddaughter of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II and 11th in line to the throne, wins the U.K.'s most prestigious annual sporting honor 35 years after Princess Anne earned a European title and the BBC prize for her horsemanship.

Phillips claimed individual gold on her horse, Toytown, at the games in Germany in August to add to the European crown she already held. Her performance also helped Britain take second spot in the team event.

``To win this is absolutely amazing,'' Phillips said at today's televised show from Birmingham, England.

F1 McLaren opt for Lewis Hamilton in 2007 GP series
Click on this link to see the full article!!!

McLaren have ended all the speculation surrounding Fernando Alonso's teammate, confirming that Lewis Hamilton will make his F1 debut next season alongside the two-time world champion.

The F1 future of the 21 year old McLaren protege has been the topic of much speculation following his impressive showing in the GP2 series this year, where he won the championship.

"It's a dream come true," said Hamilton. "To be racing in Formula 1 with McLaren has been the ultimate goal for me since I was very young and this opportunity is a fantastic way to end what has been the best year for me.

"I have grown up with McLaren and Mercedes and wouldn't be where I am today without their continued support and guidance. However I'm aware that this will be a challenge and I know that there will be a lot of attention on me. However the team has told me just to relax, do the best I can and enjoy the opportunity. I will work hard to get good results."

Pedro de la Rosa, who had held out hope of competing on an all-Spanish team, will continue to...........

2006 F1 season race-by-race guide
Click on this link to see the full article!!!

An article from http://f1.racing-live.com

The 2006 Championship seemed to be but over mid-season, but it was a season where the two title protagonists were tied on points with two races to go.

Here's how the drama of the season unfolded, race by race:

Bahrain, March 12
1. Fernando Alonso (Renault), 2. Michael Schumacher (Ferrari), 3. Kimi Raikkonen (McLaren)

Alonso began his title defence in winning style but was pushed all the way by a rejuvenated Ferrari with Schumacher determined to bury the misery of 2005. The Spaniard was only certain of victory when he emerged ahead of the German from the final round of pit stops. Raikkonen charged from the back of the grid to claim the final podium spot.

Malaysia, March 19
1. Giancarlo Fisichella (Renault), 2. Fernando Alonso (Renault), 3. Jenson Button (Honda)

Fisichella clinched his third career win leading from pole position and thwarting challenges from Button and Alonso. The world champion passed Button to seal Renault's first 1-2 as a constructor since the 1982 French Grand Prix. Schumacher was sixth, a credible performance after he and team mate Felipe Massa started from the back of the grid after engine failures on their Ferraris.

Australia, April 2
1. Fernando Alonso (Renault), 2. Kimi Raikkonen (McLaren), 3.
Ralf Schumacher (Toyota)

A bizarre afternoon in Melbourne saw Alonso take victory while Raikkonen's McLaren, with a damaged nosecone, took second spot. Pole sitter Jenson Button lost the lead early on and then retired with an engine fire in his Honda. The safety car was required four times while Michael Schumacher failed to.........

A Reuters story by Simon Baskett at www.reuters.com

VALENCIA, VALENCIA, Spain, Oct 29 (Reuters) - American Nicky Hayden took advantage of a rare error by five-times champion Valentino Rossi to claim his first MotoGP world title on Sunday.

Rossi, who went into the final race with an eight-point lead in the standings, slid off into the gravel as he lost control of his front tyre on the fifth lap and although he remounted his Yamaha the Italian had lost over 25 seconds on the leaders.

He managed to thread his way through the field from 19th to 13th but was unable to pick up enough..............

MONZA, Italy - (Reuters) - McLaren hailed protege Lewis Hamilton on Sunday after the 21-year-old Briton won the GP2 championship that serves as a feeder series to Formula One.

Michael Schumacher - The Career
Click on this link to see the full article!!!

A special  ITV article by James Allen at http://www.itv-f1.com

It's not as if it is a surprise that Michael Schumacher has decided to quit after more than 15 years at the top, but as James Allen explains, the great man will leave a big void.

James has been in F1 for as long as Michael, has worked with him at various different times and knows him as well as anyone outside Ferrari.

So who better to lead our appreciation on the sport's departing hero...

The curtain falls

Although everyone has been talking about it all weekend, it is still hard to accept that Michael Schumacher has called time on his F1 career.

Our careers have overlapped; I started in 1990, he made his debut at Spa in 1991.

It feels like a very long time ago that he burst onto the scene at Spa in the green 7Up Jordan, because it is a long time - 250 races.

I’ll never forget standing at the top of Eau Rouge during Friday qualifying (as it was then) with veteran journalist Denis Jenkinson.

We had no diamond vision screens then but Jenks reeled off the top five as he saw it, based on their speed from La Source and through Eau Rouge. He had Schumacher fifth behind Senna, Mansell, Patrese and Berger and he was right of course.

The Jordan looked amazing and it was this 22-year-old called Michael Schumacher at the wheel.

Jenks said that we should keep an eye on this boy. He looked like the real thing.

A week later I was having dinner in London with an F1 crowd which included John Watson. He took a call, I believe from Eddie Jordan, and when he hung up he said, “Schumacher has gone to Benetton!”

After just one race the guy was the hottest property in the sport.

The history

Frank Williams said that he and all the other team owners were kicking themselves in Spa that they hadn’t spotted Schumacher’s potential sooner.

Ross Brawn, then at Benetton, certainly had, racing against him in sportscars, Ross with Jaguar, Michael with Sauber-Mercedes. Mercedes were not in F1 in 1991 and by the time they arrived Schumacher was...............

The best and the worst of Michael Schumacher
Click on this link to see the full article!!!

A Reuters story at http://sport.guardian.co.uk

MONZA, Italy, Sept 10 - Ferrari's seven-times world champion Michael Schumacher announced at the Italian Grand Prix on Sunday that he will retire from Formula One at the end of the season.
The following looks at some of the best and the worst of the 37-year-old German's 246 races since his debut in 1991.

SIX OF THE BEST

BELGIUM 1992

Schumacher's first race win, in the wet, and one in which he showed all his tactical brilliance. Overtaken by Benetton team mate Martin Brundle after sliding off, Schumacher noticed that the Briton's tyres were worn out. Reckoning that his must be as well, he pitted immediately for rain tyres. It was a masterstroke of timing that won him the race.

BELGIUM 1995

A victory from 16th place on the starting grid in changing conditions and with the German staying out on slick tyres in the wet. The outcome was also tainted by controversy, with the German receiving a...........

Schumacher wins, announces retirement
Click on this link to see the full article!!!

A Reuters story at www.reuters.com

Michael Schumacher, the most successful Formula One driver of all time, is retiring from the sport at the end of the season.

The German seven-time world champion made the announcement after winning the Italian Grand Prix to reduce rival Fernando Alonso's championship lead to just two points.

Alonso failed to finish the race due to engine problems with nine laps to go.

"All these years in Formula One have been amazing, especially those spent alongside my friends in the Scuderia [Ferrari]," Schumacher said in a statement.

"Soon my future will belong to my family, while I am happy to be still part of Ferrari.

"But for now, what matters is this world championship."

It is not clear what future role Schumacher might take with Ferrari but the team says it will define his role at the end of the year.

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo said: "I had always said that the decision to retire would be his alone but now that the decision has been taken, I feel a sense of sadness".

Schumacher has set a long list of records throughout his career, including..........
