Phishing - An Internet Con to Get Your Bank / Credit Card Details
Click on this link to see the full article!!!

The name phishing comes from fishing for passwords or credit card details, spelt in the hacker style. It seems to date from 1996 when hackers were stealing AOL account names and passwords from gullible new users, with a hacked account known as a "phish". Now it has spread from stealing access to someone's e-mail to stealing their credit card details, or the contents of their bank account.

Early stages of a street robbery?
Click on this link to see the full article!!!

I was cashing a third party cheque for Bs768,000 at Banco Venezuela, in Centro Lido
(not my bank) earlier this week.
I was totally oblivious to what was going on around me because due to the long delays waiting in line at banks, I normally have something to read while I wait. This particular bank hasn't got the "take a ticket system", so I literally had to stand waiting my turn.

When that time came, I was busy dealing with the bank teller and hadn't noticed the police arriving in numbers. Two of them came inside and there were about 8 others outside. click on ther above for more

Latest Security Alert for travellers to Colonia Tovar

Rinconeer Peter Ravey sent us this warning.

Recently, two hooded assailants robbed Peter Ravey's local manager at gun and knifepoint as he stopped to take in the view on the road between El Junquito and Colonia Tovar.  He was unloaded of wallet, cell, shoes etc. Apart from the material losses, it was a family assault, which was very traumatic for the children. Recommendation is to avoid stopping at any area unless there are other people around.
